About the Role

We’re representing a fast-growing accountancy and advisory practice with a strong client base across the UK. They are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager with a background in tax compliance and advisory to join their York office. This role will involve managing a client portfolio, overseeing tax compliance services, and contributing to the growth and development of the wider tax team. It’s an excellent opportunity for a CTA-qualified tax professional seeking career progression in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver corporate and personal tax compliance services to a portfolio of clients

  • Support the wider tax advisory function and provide input into planning projects

  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional service lines to clients

  • Utilise technology and digital tools to enhance compliance and efficiency

  • Manage deadlines, ensuring statutory and client filing obligations are met accurately and on time

  • Review tax calculations and technical assessments prepared by colleagues, providing feedback where necessary

  • Oversee and support the workflow of junior team members, providing coaching and guidance

  • Identify opportunities from client records to add value and strengthen client relationships

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • CTA qualified with at least 5 years’ tax experience within practice

  • Strong track record in both tax compliance and advisory across corporate and personal clients

  • Previous supervisory or management experience desirable

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex matters clearly

  • Commercially aware with strong project management and leadership skills

  • Organised, with excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond quickly to client requests
