Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice – Reading (Berkshire)

Salary: £50,000- £70,000 dependent on experience


About the Role

We are representing a well-established independent small animal practice in the Reading area that is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join their supportive clinical team.

Both full-time and part-time hours are available, with no out-of-hours requirements and only 1 in 4 Saturday mornings, providing excellent work–life balance. This is a great opportunity for a vet who enjoys first-opinion practice with a close-knit and collaborative team.


About the Practice

The practice is home to a small, experienced team, including:

  • 3 Veterinary Surgeons

  • 2 Registered Veterinary Nurses

  • 2 Student Veterinary Nurses

  • 2 Animal Care Assistants

They offer a broad range of services using strong diagnostic support systems. In partnership with IDEXX Laboratories, the practice provides:

  • Full in-house haematology and biochemistry

  • Rapid diagnostic testing

  • Internal medicine support

  • Routine and soft tissue surgery

  • General imaging and first-opinion procedures

This independent clinic is proud of its personalised care, continuity, and long-standing relationships within the local community.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out consultations and medical workups

  • Performing routine surgical procedures

  • Supporting diagnostics using in-house laboratory equipment

  • Delivering excellent client communication and education

  • Participating in the Saturday morning rota

  • Collaborating effectively with the wider veterinary and nursing team


About You

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon

  • Competent with routine consults and surgeries

  • Confident communicator with a compassionate approach

  • Proactive, organised, and committed to high clinical standards

  • Open to both part-time and full-time working arrangements
