About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse to join a well-established small animal hospital in Bridgend, South Wales. This is an ideal role for an experienced RVN looking to take the next step into leadership while maintaining strong clinical involvement.
Working alongside a supportive leadership team, you will play a key role in driving clinical standards, mentoring colleagues, and supporting the day-to-day running of the practice.
Salary: £30,000 – £33,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Location: Bridgend, South Wales
Schedule: Full-time, 4-day week with a fair share of weekends
About the Practice
This is a purpose-built small animal hospital supported by several branch practices across South Wales, offering a varied and interesting caseload.
The practice is equipped to a high standard and holds RCVS Hospital Status and Cat Friendly accreditation, reflecting a commitment to clinical excellence and patient welfare.
They are also a recognised veterinary nurse training practice, with a strong focus on development, collaboration, and utilising the full skillset of their nursing team. The culture is inclusive and supportive, with an emphasis on wellbeing and professional growth.
Responsibilities
The Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse will play a pivotal role in both clinical delivery and team leadership.
Leading, mentoring and supporting members of the nursing team
Assisting with the day-to-day management of clinical operations
Delivering high-quality clinical nursing care, including maintaining hands-on duties
Ensuring compliance with RCVS Practice Standards and hospital accreditation
Supporting the training and development of student nurses
Promoting excellent patient care and client communication
Assisting with stock control, equipment maintenance, and clinical audits
Supporting rota management and team coordination
Fostering a positive and collaborative team culture
Candidate Profile
They are seeking a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with leadership potential.
RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse
Previous experience in a senior or leadership role desirable
Strong organisational and communication skills
Passion for clinical excellence and team development
Proactive, supportive, and team-oriented approach
Commitment to maintaining high clinical and welfare standards
Compensation & Benefits
A comprehensive and rewarding package is offered:
£30,000 – £33,000 salary depending on experience
