About the Role
As the Regional Medical Director, you will oversee a portfolio of 20-35 animal hospitals, acting as a key partner and resource for dedicated veterinary teams. This exciting role involves weekly travel throughout the Southwest, allowing you to work with diverse practice teams and build strong relationships with hospital staff. You will be instrumental in driving excellent patient care by collaborating with veterinary teams on various initiatives, including:
Elevating Patient Care: Monitoring doctor interactions and medicine protocols to ensure the highest standards of care.
Developing Teams: Mentoring and coaching staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Resolving Challenges: Assisting in the resolution of staff and/or client conflicts, promoting effective communication and problem-solving.
Driving Operational Excellence: Collaborating with the leadership team (Regional Directors, Practice Managers, Veterinarians, etc.) to support staff and optimize business operations.
Ensuring Compliance: Maintaining operational and medical execution consistent with company policies and procedures.
Growth & Performance: Taking ownership of preserving transaction rates and pet count, contributing to the overall success of the region.
Mentorship & Support: Providing guidance and support to new graduate veterinarians, helping them thrive in their careers.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and experienced veterinarian with a proven track record of leadership and a passion for animal welfare. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
Location & Travel
This is a field-based role requiring weekly travel throughout the Southwest. Candidates must reside near a major airport in one of the following metropolitan areas: Denver, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Austin, Houston, or Dallas.
Key Responsibilities
Practice alongside DVMs, assisting with cases and providing mentorship.
Review cases when requested by Regional Director (RD), DVM, or Practice Manager (PM).
Monitor hospital flow, appointments, and client satisfaction.
Support area hospitals by filling urgent needed shifts.
Provide support and review for negative case outcomes.
Monitor Vetshare App for content and engagement.
Analyze weekly trends with PM, providing explanations for Key Performance Indicators.
Collaborate with Regional Director(s) and Vice President of Medicine on identified issues and recommendations for improvement.
Monitor DEA logbooks for accuracy.
Review current projects and provide updates as needed.
Collaborate with Regional Director on operational issues or areas for improvement.
Review DVM numbers to identify problems and trends.
Encourage healthy communication between DVMs and guide DVM protocols and ideas.
Perform quarterly inspections of all practices in the designated region.
Host regional DVM events.
Hold licenses and permits needed to operate hospitals in the region if required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited college (or successful completion of the ECFVG or PAVE program).
Hold Veterinary License in State(s) of all hospitals being overseen.
Active license and DEA in good standing (or the ability to obtain a license in that state).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate responsibility appropriately.
Ability to analyze complex information and make quality decisions.
Capability to work with, lead, and motivate people of various personality types.
Strong time management skills.
Professional conduct befitting the importance of the Veterinarian position.
Positive representation of the practice to the profession and community.
Clinical practice experience of 5+ years, with preferred leadership experience.
Willingness to travel extensively.
