Registered Veterinary Nurse Opportunity in Newcastle upon Tyne

We are recruiting on behalf of a large, privately owned independent veterinary group in the North East, seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their well-established and supportive clinical team.

This role is ideal for candidates looking for Registered Veterinary Nurse jobs in Newcastle, RVN roles in Gosforth, or veterinary nurse positions in the North East, offering strong clinical support, excellent facilities, and continuity of care through in-house out-of-hours services.


Hours & Working Pattern

  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

  • Ideally worked over 4 long days with a fixed weekday off (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday)

  • RVNs usually based at a regular branch but may cover other sites as required

  • All weekend, night, and OOH shifts based at a 24-hour hospital site


Weekend, Night & OOH Commitments

Paid at time and a half (claimed monthly):

  • Saturday morning branch rota: 1 in 4

  • Saturday day hospital shift (8am–8pm): approx. 3–4 per year

  • Sunday day hospital shift (8am–8pm): approx. 3–4 per year

  • Weekend sickness cover availability: approx. 3–4 per year

Time off in lieu provided:

  • Monday night shifts (7:30pm–8am): 1–2 per year

  • Full weekend night rota (Friday–Sunday nights): 2–3 per year, with 6 days off in lieu


The RVN Role

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will play a key role in supporting Veterinary Surgeons and reception teams across a busy, multi-site practice.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • In-patient care and monitoring

  • Theatre support and anaesthetic monitoring

  • Nurse consultations

  • Supporting emergency and out-of-hours care

  • Working collaboratively with RVNs, SVNs, auxiliary nurses, vets, and reception staff

  • Maintaining high standards of patient and client care
