Role Overview – Accounts Senior | Manchester

Reporting to the Accounts Assistant Manager, the Accounts Senior is responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing accounts preparation, ensuring compliance, and supporting junior team members. This role offers autonomy, leadership experience, and exposure to complex accounting assignments.


Key Responsibilities

Accounts & Tax Delivery

  • Prepare accounts and associated corporation and personal tax returns for clients to a standard ready for review

  • Ensure all submissions comply with firm and regulatory requirements, including FRS 102, FRS 102 Section 1A, and FRS 105

  • Review work of junior colleagues and provide constructive feedback

  • Support the Accounts Director with client debriefs and reporting

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining regular communication

  • Monitor and proactively resolve client issues

  • Build strong, long-term professional relationships

  • Identify opportunities for cross-sell services within the existing client base

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Mentor colleagues from apprentice level to Accounts Senior

  • Assist the Accounts Director with day-to-day team management

  • Ensure workflow and client deadlines are met

  • Promote a collaborative and supportive team culture

Commercial & Operational Management

  • Manage client diaries and workflow efficiently

  • Review existing fees and suggest adjustments where appropriate

  • Ensure work is completed on time and within budget

  • Contribute to departmental development and CPD initiatives


Candidate Requirements

  • ACCA/ACA qualified (or equivalent) with at least 3 years post-qualification experience

  • Proven experience in a practice environment

  • Strong technical knowledge of FRS 102, FRS 102 Section 1A, FRS 105, and consolidations

  • Demonstrable experience managing client relationships

  • Ability to mentor and develop colleagues

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative

  • Excellent communication skills with clients and colleagues at all levels
