The Role – Audit Manager | Manchester Accountancy Jobs
Reporting to the Audit Senior Manager and Responsible Individual, the Audit Manager will take full ownership of a portfolio of audit clients while leading and developing audit teams.
The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership maturity and commercial awareness within a professional practice environment.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio & Audit Delivery

Manage a £400k+ audit portfolio across varied sectors

Plan, execute, review and complete audit assignments

Ensure compliance with ISAs (UK), FRS 102, Companies Act and regulatory standards

Deliver audits on time and within budget
-
Prepare audit files to Senior Manager and RI review standard
Client Relationship Management

Act as primary contact for audit clients

Build and maintain long-term professional relationships
-
Identify advisory and cross-sell opportunities
-
Manage stakeholder expectations throughout audit lifecycle
Leadership & Team Development

Lead audit teams with clarity and accountability

Delegate effectively and empower junior team members

Conduct performance reviews and development discussions
-
Support recruitment and retention of audit talent

Promote collaboration across the audit department
Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure compliance with ISQM 1, AML and internal firm policies
-
Review junior team members’ work prior to escalation
-
Maintain high documentation and quality standards

Escalate risks appropriately to senior leadership
Commercial & Business Contribution

Manage audit budgets and profitability
-
Contribute to tender processes and new business pitches

Support firm-wide growth initiatives

Attend client meetings and networking events where required
Candidate Requirements

ACA or ACCA qualified
-
Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience
-
At least 7 years’ audit experience within a UK professional practice

Proven experience managing an audit portfolio
-
Strong technical knowledge of auditing and regulatory standards
-
Experience operating at Audit Manager level within a Top 50, Top 60 or similar firm preferred
Working Arrangement
This is primarily an office-based Audit Manager position in Manchester. The successful candidate will typically be present in the office three to four days per week, reflecting the leadership and team management responsibilities of the role.
