Salary: £50,000 – £68,000 + annual bonus
Location: Manchester (primarily office-based, 4 days per week)

The Role – Audit Senior Manager, Manchester

Reporting to the Head of Audit and Responsible Individual, the Audit Senior Manager will hold operational responsibility for a significant audit portfolio and act as a key guardian of audit quality and compliance.

The successful candidate will operate with minimal supervision and provide leadership across complex audit engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio & Technical Oversight

  • Manage a substantial audit portfolio (£500k–£1m+ fee base)

  • Oversee complex group audits, consolidations and regulated entities

  • Ensure compliance with ISAs (UK), FRS 102, IFRS and Companies Act

  • Review audit strategy, risk assessment and materiality prior to RI review

  • Ensure all audit files are fully RI-ready

  • Act as escalation point for technical and quality matters

Audit Quality & Compliance

  • Support the firm’s ISQM 1 framework

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans

  • Maintain high standards of documentation and supervision

  • Contribute to regulatory and QAD inspection readiness

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and develop Audit Managers and Assistant Managers

  • Drive succession planning within the audit team

  • Lead performance reviews and structured development plans

  • Provide stability and visible leadership within the department

Commercial & Client Management

  • Manage engagement budgets and profitability

  • Identify fee growth opportunities and scope expansion

  • Maintain senior-level client relationships

  • Engage with boards and audit committees

  • Support client retention and strategic growth initiatives

Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified

  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience

  • Current or recent experience at Audit Manager or Senior Manager level

  • Background within a Top 50, Top 60 or similar professional services firm

  • Strong technical knowledge of ISAs (UK), FRS 102, Companies Act and ISQM 1

  • Proven experience managing complex group audits

Working Arrangement

This is a leadership role requiring strong on-site presence. The successful candidate will typically work in the Manchester office four days per week, subject to business needs.
